What Is Truth

by mark henderson

You may have heard it said that in ancient times a majority believed the earth to be flat, and yet simply because a majority believe; does that make it truth? Interestingly the Bible declared long before that time that the earth is round: “It is [God] who sits above the circle of the earth…” — Isaiah 40:22

We are spiritual. And you?

Can you take a minute away from your demanding schedule to ask a few questions?

So here goes, do you feel more comfortable when people talk with you or at you? Often times religious people talk down to, past, or at you. Agreed?

Fear makes some people oppressive. Are you going to put up with someone attempting to control you just to overcome their own fear?

When Olya’s 3 year old daughter Monica cried because she was scared, Olya comforted her beloved daughter Monica with a warm heartfelt embrace. Have you hugged yourself today? Someone else?

Depression is fear’s expected outcome.

Anger often occurs after depression fails to conquer fear.

Control follows next.

Lifeguards carry a float with a long rope, because a drowning victim may drown the rescuer by pulling them under. The victim makes matters worse when attempting to control their own rescue. Get it?

When everything fails to conquer fear, people may enter into an unending cycle we know as “The Circle of Fear” — 1) Fear 2) Depression 3) Anger 4) Control.

What if God is who He says He is? Is God the ultimate solution to conquering fear?

Olya, a 24 year old woman who migrated to America from Ukraine, says that she was blind. How is it that now she says she can see? Olya trusts that the Bible is truth, and yet what is truth?

The test of leadership is to look over your shoulder. If no one is following you, then you are not a leader.

Ask yourself, “Who am I following? Why?”

The Bible says, “Many of [Jesus followers] turned back and no longer accompanied Him. So Jesus said to the twelve, ‘You don’t want to go away too, do you?’ Simon Peter answered, ‘Lord, to whom will we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and know that you are the Holy One of God.’”” — JOHN 6:66-69

To rebuke or reproach someone is to express sharp disapproval or criticism because of their behavior or actions. Remarkably the Bible’s Gospel of Mark ends with Jesus disapproving and criticizing His followers, His disciples. How would you feel, were this you? The Bible says, “Afterward He appeared to the eleven [disciples/followers] and He reproached them for their unbelief and HARDNESS-OF-HEART, because they had not believed those who had seen Him after He had risen.” — Mark 16:14

Why did Jesus’ closest followers, His disciples, fail to understand? To believe truth?

ANSWER: At this time the Spirit of God had not entered into the heart of hearts of Jesus’ followers. The Bible says, “I have many more things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come!

Have you seen storefronts promoting palm reading? Desperate people do desperate things in desperate times! Agreed? Who doesn’t want to know their future? But what if the worst is ahead of you? What then? To whom would you turn for comfort?

Those of us who’ve made For Something Good our home turned to the God of the Bible because what He said happened did happen, what is happening is what He said would happen and therefore we wholeheartedly trust that what He said will happen will in fact happen! Who else is able to authentically foretell the future? We are confident in knowing that after storms in our life pass, there is calm.

How will we know who to follow? The Bible says, “This is the promise which He Himself made to us: eternal life. These things I have written to you concerning THOSE WHO ARE TRYING TO DECEIVE YOU. As for you, THE ANOINTING [Spirit of God / Holy Spirit] which you received from Him abides in you, and YOU HAVE NO NEED for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing teaches you about ALL THINGS, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you abide in Him.” — 1 John 2:25-27

ANSWER: Receive God’s Holy Spirit into your heart and read God’s word in the Bible. The Spirit of God will reveal to you what is truth!
